Day 18 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days More or Less

Today is the eighteenth day of Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

Hilltop Farm
by Judith Flynn Lochbrunner
acrylic on canvas
11 x 14 inches

And yes, this is another painting that began as a plein air work from early September of last year.  The colors on the hillside had begun just "hinting" that the season was about to change to Autumn.

Although this may sound similar to previous posts, it was necessary to simplify in order to finish the painting.  Several small structures on the top of the hill became one larger barn and one larger house.  Much of the hillside stayed the same with only a few more darks added to lead the viewer through the painting.   The field at the bottom was poorly defined and had so many trees and such that it felt like the hill was "falling" out of the painting.   The field was re-painted with colors repeated from the hill to represent a (simple) mowed or harvested meadow.

I do appreciate all your wonderful comments and want to thank you for your continued support of the painting challenge.

  1. Love the old wonky fence posts, and the scene is so.. comforting. Time for some hot apple cider in front of the fire :)

  2. If only the temperatures would cool off to really enjoy that hot cider! Thanks.
