January 4 -30 Paintings in 30 Days

Today is the 4th day of Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge 2017.

The Old Church
by Judith F Lochbrunner
acrylic on paper
8 x 8 inches

Today's landscape tackles perspective.  Yes, it was time to get out the ruler and draw lines to make sure all the angles were correct.  However, I did not want the painting to look like it was part of a set of architectural drawings.

The challenge is to make the building look "acceptable" in its setting without it becoming hard and distracting with too many details.  The idea was to paint this old church and show the loving wear and tear of many years of services.  I wanted the focus to be on the simple wreath on the door to welcome those who walk up the stairs from the dirt path.

Colors are muted almost like those found in Farmhouse chic designs to emphasize the sense of simplicity and age.

Thank you for keeping up with the challenge on my blog.  I appreciate your time to check today.

  1. Beautiful! YOu captured the age well, without becomingdrab. Love the golden grasses too :)

  2. Your comments are so wonderful and well written. I need you to look over my next artist statememt!

  3. Lovely painting. Even though the church is aged you have painted it as still strong. Reading your challenges for this painting - I think you were successful and then some. Looking forward to day 5!
